Hsiao Ru-Ho
A proactive, enterprising, diligent person approaching all tasks with responsibility and maturity.
My adaptable nature, strong interpersonal skills, and interdisciplinary background make me highly effective in collaborating with diverse individuals to successfully achieve team objectives.
A third-year graduate student in Technical Design at Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA), I began my theater career in 2018 after earning a B.A. in German Language and Culture. My early professional years were spent as a freelance crew member for major commercial productions and international tours, where I gained essential hands-on experience in rigging, automation, and live operations for large-scale shows.
As my practice evolved, I transitioned into specialized roles, including Video Engineer (QLab programming), Assistant Stage Manager for international tours, and Technical Interpreter for visiting German ensembles. During my time at HUNGCHI INTERNATIONAL ARTS, I adopted a technical director’s mindset, mastering AutoCAD and production management to oversee complex logistics, workflow planning, and technical documentation.
In 2021, I entered the MFA program at TNUA to bridge the gap between design and fabrication. Under the mentorship of Professor Chin-Yuan Eugene Yang, I built a foundation in motion control, mechanisms, and electrical systems. I have since served as Technical Director for over ten productions: managing budgets, drafting, and leading crews through the full production cycle, and served as Co-Supervisor for the Farglory Ocean Park parade float project.
In 2024, I completed a Props Internship at the Yale School of Drama, where I refined my skills in scenic painting, upholstery, casting, and vacuum forming. During the Carlotta Festival, I served as Props Manager for three intensive productions, integrating fabrication expertise with real-time rehearsal needs and shop management. Currently based in New York City, I am serving as a Technical Assistant at The Metropolitan Opera, where I continue to explore the intersection of craftsmanship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and emerging technologies in the performing arts.
