Stage Description
This production is a Taiwanese family drama, so the stage is designed as a traditional Taiwanese home constructed primarily from bamboo. The set is in-the-round, and due to the need for live music, a bamboo musician’s platform was incorporated into the design.
A key feature of the set is a movable two-level tower, designed for dual-purpose use: one side as a traditional Taiwanese opera stage and the other as a Taoist altar. The tower's main structure is made of metal, while the surface elements are constructed from bamboo.
This was my first experience using bamboo as the primary material for both scenery and furniture. Since the completed structures needed to be lightweight, transportable, and easy to assemble, I conducted extensive structural experiments and learned various techniques for securing bamboo throughout the process.
